Meet the Team
Alessandro Ferri
My name is Alessandro Ferri, owner of State of Mind Canine. I’m a Florida native and own 4 dogs. Echo is my 9 year old Belgian Malinois, Zoey is my 11 year old pit mix, Colby is my 10 year old lab mix, and Tony is my 7 year old pit mix.
I specialize in on & off leash obedience as well as a wide range of behavioral challenges from anxiety to aggression to fear and beyond. My training philosophy is to identify the root cause of each problem, approaching every dog on a case by case basis. I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. When I work with families and their dogs, I want to make sure you have the right tools, techniques, and information to be successful. My goal is to make things as simple and easy for you as possible because the easier the training is for you, the more consistent you’ll be, the more consistent you’ll be the more success you’ll have, and the more success you have the better of a life you and your dog will have. Ultimately that’s what I strive for with everyone I work with, is that you and your dog live the best life possible.
I’ve spent the last decade plus dedicated to dogs, starting off volunteering at a shelter, then moving to fostering for rescues before embarking on my training journey. I invested a significant amount of time into my education and growth as a trainer, traveling across the USA to learn under some of the best names in the industry. Whether I’m attending seminars, shadowing, or apprenticing, I’m continuously working towards expanding my knowledge and experience with dogs. In the world of training, too much information and too many nuances can lead to confusion, causing families to work in circles or give up entirely. I aim to make effective dog training accessible to everyone, developing a custom-tailored program that’s clear, fair, and results-oriented. Regardless of your goals, I’m here to guide you through the process, providing you with everything needed to establish a positive relationship with your dog and achieve long-term success.
Echo
Echo is my 9 year old Belgian Malinois. He is an incredibly sweet and fun high drive dog. We have done some Schutzhund training early on and even got his BH before an injury made us stop. We have done narcotics training, competed in nosework, and also lots of tricks. He loves to play fetch and tug and cuddle. One of his favorite activities is going on a run while I ride a OneWheel. He is an amazing dog who helps me by being an incredible distraction for dogs when we are proofing their obedience because with how animated he is, its a great test for the dogs.
Zoey
Zoey is my 11 year old pit mix. She was my first dog in my training journey because she was had the worst case of fear that I have seen. She was in a shelter and was hiding in the back of her kennel not moving. It got so bad the shelter moved her into isolation because she was too shut down and wasn’t showing well. That’s when I started fostering her and it was a long and slow road. After a few months the shelter said I needed to bring her back or I needed to adopt her. With all the success we had, there was no way I would send her back to a place that was focused on the majority and wouldn’t be able to give her the time and help she needed so I adopted her. Going from hiding and not moving in the corner of my house for months to now going up to every person and dog to play and make friends was an incredible transformation. This was my first taste of how I could help change so many lives. She is a great dog who helps me with socializing new dogs.
Colby
Colby is my 10 year old lab mix who initially came in a rescue for training because he was nipping/biting people. His previous owner had gotten sick and couldn’t care for him and the family wasn’t taking good care of him so that’s how he came into the rescue. After having him for a bit and training him, I realized he has some quirks and is a nervy dog and after trying to find a few homes for him, I just didn’t feel like anyone would understand what he needs and try to make him be someone he isn’t. So that’s when he joined my family and has helped me socialize many dogs and has a great time playing and going on off leash exploration trips at fields.
Tony
Tony is a 7 year old pit mix and is my newest addition. He originally came in because the boarding place the rescue had him couldn’t care for him anymore because he was being “aggressive with his crate and food” to where the staff couldn’t feed/take him out. So the rescue reached out to me to see if I could help and I offered to foster him for 3 months to work on the issues while giving them time to find another situation. Since the moment he came in I didn’t see any aggression or issues and he was incredibly sweet, so I ended up fostering him for a few years and ended up adopting him. He is incredible with the other dogs and knows how to play, socialize dogs, and set boundaries for dogs who are a little too excited and he never takes things personally or goes overboard.
